HESP Alliance welcomes G-Core Labs as new member

Leuven, Belgium – September 29, 2021 – The HESP Alliance today announced that G-Core Labs, provider of a global edge cloud platform, has signed up as a member. G-Core Labs will be able to bring high efficiency streaming workflows to media companies over its content delivery network (CDN), and will additionally be able to actively participate in activities shaping the future of scalable sub-second latency live streaming and fast zapping through the High-Efficiency Streaming Protocol (“HESP”).

The HESP Alliance aims to accelerate standardization and large-scale adoption of high efficiency streaming through HESP. Alliance members can license the technology; integrate it into their video packaging and playback solutions; and develop and share HESP extensions to drive further innovation. A verification program for HESP solutions will ensure interoperability across packaging, playback and CDN solutions and provide peace of mind for media companies deploying high efficiency streaming services.

G-Core Labs’ edge CDN has been tested extensively for compatibility with HESP and is a straightforward deployment for scalable sub-second latency live and interactive streaming experiences through HESP, ideally suited for use cases such as live sports, e-sports, virtual events, online gaming and e-learning. It has also proven compatible for HESP’s fast zapping capabilities, a key enabler for operators to converge their existing Internet Protocol television (IPTV) and over-the-top (OTT) workflows to a full OTT workflow.

“In highly competitive media industry minimized latency means a pass to the future.” said Alex Peterson, Head of Streaming Platform at G-Core Labs. “We are inspired to join forces with HESP Alliance in exploring cutting-edge technologies to bring our clients a state-of-the-art streaming platform for professional streaming and broadcasting. We expect the HESP technology to be a great fit for G-Core Labs low-latency CDN that already demonstrates the highest productivity rates in Europe, North America, Latin America and CIS countries.”

"We are pleased to have G-Core Labs, as international cloud and edge leader focused on low latency, join the HESP Alliance," said Steven Tielemans, President of the HESP Alliance. “We are increasingly seeing requests from media companies for demonstrations and proof of concepts, so we look forward to working together with the G-Core Labs team to demonstrate HESP’s ability to cost efficiently stream at sub-second latency to thousand or millions of viewers over their CDN.”
